Important Update for Five Mile Prairie Students

Good evening Families,

You've probably already heard that the district has cancelled classes for tomorrow, September 16th.  In that message, the district shared that the rest of the week is still up in the air as far as classes are concerned.  Please know that our staff is eager to start seeing our students and they continue working behind the scenes to get everything ready to hit the ground running as soon as possible.  We know that you are all ready to have your kids start school and many of you have done so from home.  Due to the extended closure, we are having to adjust out dates and deadlines.  Please read on to see what changes will occur due to our schools being closed:

Both Five Mile Prairie Elementary and Secondary:  I will be sending information out about Chromebook computer check out tomorrow.  We would like to get these computers in our students hands by the end of this week.  I will share the location and the timeframes for which you can pick up your Chromebooks. We had scheduled this earlier in the week but with schools being closed, we will need to pivot and make a new plan.

Five Mile Prairie Elementary:

  1. Orientation:  Since school will not be in session tomorrow, we are cancelling our Elementary Orientation.  Instead of trying to reschedule, our teachers will record the information and I will share the video with you, hopefully tomorrow evening.  As a part of this pre-recorded orientation, you will have the ability to ask questions that normally would have been asked during our in person event.  Once we have your questions, we will answer all of them and then share the document with all the answers attached.  We know this isn't ideal but our staff feel strongly that we need to provide our families with this information.  If you still have questions after watching the orientation and then reading through the question and answer document, you will be able to reach out to your child's teacher with more specific questions.
  2. Making Contact:  Many of our teachers have already sent an email asking you to make contact with them.  Some teachers were waiting to see if we were going to have school.  If you have not been contacted by your child's teacher, please don't panic.  We will be in contact soon.  As soon as I know that all of our teachers have sent an email to their families, I will communicate that message to you.  At that point, if you still haven't received an email from your child's teacher, you can reach out to me or call the office when it reopens and we will figure it out with you.  Again, thank you for your patience on this as we navigate this very unusual time.
  3. Schedule:  I will send you an updated schedule tomorrow night.  This schedule will include what next week will look like and which students will have class on which day.

Five Mile Prairie Secondary:

  1. Making Contact:  Many of our teachers have already sent an email asking for you and your child to make contact with them.
  2. Curriculum Pick up:  Our staff made a plan for families to pick up curriculum later this week.  We may still do this, but I need to connect with the staff to make sure we will be ready.  Either way, tomorrow night I will communicate the new details on picking your curriculum up.
  3. Schedule: I will send you an updated schedule tomorrow night.  This schedule will include what next week will look like for our students.
North Star:  Please keep an eye out for more communication from Mrs. Ginny Cronin.  Again, I want to thank you for your patience as we navigate the current situation.
