Updates for Five Mile Families

3/16/2020 UPDATE:

Good afternoon Five Mile Prairie families,

Thank you all for your patience, grace, and understanding as we navigate through these ever evolving circumstances.  I appreciate the kind words of support many of you have been sharing with our staff over the last several days. Below is a list of updates as of today, 3/16/20.

  1. Events that have been scheduled through April 24th are cancelled.  I will be working to come up with a different way to hold our parent night that was scheduled for March 26th.  I will update you soon with further details.

  2. Parent conferences, student led conferences  and/or progress meetings will be on hold through at least April 24th.

  3. Our staff will be providing suggestions/resources for optional learning activities to take place over the next couple of weeks.  We will communicate further learning expectations once we receive additional clarification from our state.

  4. Our staff will be available and monitoring email throughout this week and over the next 6 weeks.  Students and parents, please check your school email regularly for updates.

  5. Sharing monthly progress notes will not be required until after April 24th.

  6. Our district is awaiting further guidance from our state with regard to high school credits and the completion of classes.

  7. Mr. Taylor will be in contact with any seniors needing to complete their Senior Presentations.

  8. If you are working on earning your Silverwood ticket, the deadline for submission has now been extended through April 30th.

  9. Our office will be closed this week.  We will send updates on Monday (3/23) providing further details for our office hours during this closure.

With the events continually changing please look for updates frequently.  The list of items above was generated by questions from all of you, so please keep them coming!  If you are curious, other families are as well. Thank you again for your continued support as we learn to carry on together, and for entrusting your children with us.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Josh Westermann

Principal, Five Mile Prairie

Good morning Five Mile Prairie Families,

I wanted to reach out to all of you today and let you know that as a staff we are working to prepare for this unprecedented school closure.  While we are awaiting further direction from our state with regard to providing school services for our community, our 5 Mile staff will be meeting early Monday morning to create a plan for our school.

For those of you that Monday is not your regular attendance day, please feel free to stop by our office during normal school hours if your child has anything at school (medications or personal belongings) that will be needed at home during our closure.  Please let your kids know that we will miss them during this closure and look forward to seeing them all back soon.

Our office will be closed from March 17th-20th.  During the time spanning March 23rd - April 24th, office hours will be determined within the next week.  Our teachers will be available by email for the duration of our closure and will be communicating with you as our plans take shape.

This is a time of uncertainty and stress for many in our community and as a school we understand the worry that many students may have.  I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a supportive and caring community and am confident that together we will create opportunities for the learning to continue.  Thank you in advance for your patience, grace, and partnership as we navigate this journey together.

I will stay in communication with all of you as we formulate plans and prepare to welcome everyone back to school near the end of April.

Thank you for entrusting your children with us.
